Antibacterial Susceptibility of Clinical Isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae in Nigeria to Carbapenems

چکیده

The emergent bacterial resistance to antibiotics, most especially Carbapenems, has become a common phenomenon. aim of the recent study was observation and evaluation antibacterial susceptibility Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical specimens different Carbapenems. One hundred isolates K. isolated from sites, such as leg, caesarean section (CS), head, buttock, breast, thigh, arm were tested. Using disc diffusion method, tested for antibiotics including Tobramycin, Ciprofloxacin, Aztreonam, Colistin sulphate, Ceftriaxone, Cefepime, Cefoxitin, Ceftazidime, Ertapenem, Meropenem, Imipenem. results interpreted according Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute disk standard. All highly susceptible all classes Carbapenems: Imipenem (99%), Meropenem (96%) Ertapenem (91%). However, they resistant Ciprofloxacin (97%), Ceftriaxone (91%) Tobramycin (73%). Despite emergence multi-drug bacteria this showed that Carbapenems could still be used treating infections caused by pneumoniae.

Molecular Characterization of Klebsiella pneumoniae Clinical Isolates with Elevated Resistance to Carbapenems

BACKGROUND Emergence of carbapenems-resistant K. pneumoniae represents a serious challenge for antimicrobial therapy. OBJECTIVE The aim of this research is to determine different mechanisms mediating the emergence of K. pneumoniae isolates with high-level carbapenem resistance. METHOD A total of 80 K. pneumoniae isolates were purified from sputum and urine specimens. The minimum inhibitory ...

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates from Educational Hospitals in Zahedan, Iran

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: The resistance of gram-negative bacteria to antibiotics has become a serious problem, which imposes a significant increase in treatment costs. Klebsiella pneumoniae is an important nosocomial pathogen from the Enterobacteriaceae family. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency and pattern of antibiotic resistance in K. pneumoniae strains isolat...

Molecular analysis of the ramRA locus in clinical Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates with reduced susceptibility to tigecycline.

Mutations in ramR, a negative regulator of ramA which stimulates transcription of acrA/-B encoding the multidrug efflux pump AcrAB-TolC, were recently shown to result in reduced susceptibility to tigecycline in Klebsiella pneumoniae. We analysed six non-duplicate K. pneumoniae isolates with elevated MICs to tigecycline. All isolates showed transcriptional up-regulation of ramA and acrB as demon...

High Prevalence of CTXM-15 Type Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Among Clinical Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae

Background: Production of β–lactamases by enterobacteriacea, especially Klebsiella pneumoniae, is one of the emerging health problems in the world. The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency of blaCTX-M15 gene in K. pneumoniae isolates and determine the molecular diversity of CTXM producing isolates. Methods: In...

Evaluation of Resistance to Fluoroquinolones and Its Relationship whit parC Gene Mutation in Klebsiella pneumoniae Clinical Isolates

Background & Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae has received attention due to a wide range of diseases and antibiotic resistance. The resistance to fluoroquinolones in gram-negative bacteria is often due to chromosomal mutations in the gyr and par genes. This research aimed at investigating the pattern of fluoroquinolone resistance and its relation with a mutation in the parC gene among clinical i...
